3 Tips on How to Keep the Holiday Weight Off
Holiday parties are finally here. It is that time of year again for work holiday parties, family get-togethers and many more wondrous occasions. Alongside these wonderful traditions is the temptation to indulge in million and one cookies your secret santa has left on your desk or your neighbors have dropped off at your door.
If you worked all summer to shed the weight for that bikini, don’t give up now. Summer bodies start in the winter, therefore, this is the perfect time to test your self-discipline.
Scenario #1: You are trying to avoid snacking at a Christmas party.
When I snack, I opt for a small plate and I only allow myself to fill it up once. By limiting yourself to a small plate and one trip, you are less likely to overeat. Also, find a relative that you haven’t talked to in years and catch up with them OUT OF THE KITCHEN. If you talk around the food, you will continue to overeat without realizing it. If you take your conversation and plate into the other room, you will not overindulge in things you shouldn’t.
Scenario #2: Your boss's wife made her famous three thousand calorie cheesecake.
I would have a really hard time avoiding this one… and you don’t want to offend right?! I am a cheesecake fan for life. If you do not allow yourself the option to have some dessert, then you will continue to snack on other things that might end up adding up to what you “skimped” on. So take that piece of cheesecake and split it between you and a loved one. Put your fork down between bites so that your partner in dessert crime can eat more than half his or her share, leaving you with less calories to consume.
Scenario #3: There is DRESSING (stuffing) and grandma’s homemade ROLLS.
This is a stuff spot. Dressing is delicious, but it is also pretty much just bread. So which would taste better? If the stuffing is made from a box, pick grandma’s rolls (she won’t be around forever). That sounds a little morbid, but it might help your self-discipline a little.
Remember, it is okay to have a few cheats around the holidays, but if you are a popular invite to parties, then think about when to indulge and when to make healthier choices. Last little tip, eat a small, healthy meal before you go to a dinner party or any party, so you will not snack nearly as much. :)
Good luck!
Happiness and Health,
Hannah
